For 43 years, the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia (HSSCG) has been in the business of saving lives. Established in 1967, HSSCG was the first organization in Glynn County to provide rescue and adoption services for abused and abandoned animals in our community. All totaled, over 12,600 spayed or neutered dogs and cats have been placed into loving homes from our facility. We take our responsibility to reduce the chronic problem of animal overpopulation seriously and we are proud to say we are a no-kill shelter.
Last year, over 3,500 animals were killed in Glynn County as a means to control animal population. Because we are a no-kill shelter, the Humane Society offers a real alternative to the killings because we do not "euthanize" animals to reduce animal numbers. This, in turn, puts enormous financial and logistical pressures on us, as well as placing us in a trusted position as THE place to take a pet that can no longer be kept at home. The Iraq-bound soldier and the elderly lady sent to a nursing home can take comfort in knowing that the pets they've entrusted to our care will not be put down.
Today we are at a crossroad. The current HSSCG building is beyond patching. It is seriously over capacity and animals are turned away daily for lack of space. A new facility at the present campus is the most viable solution for present and future needs. The Humane Society’s Board of Directors is fully committed to bringing a capital campaign to fruition for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art animal center dedicated to the humane treatment of abandoned and homeless animals. In just over a year and a half we have raised $825,000 in donations and pledges, putting us more than halfway to our goal of $1,500,000.
Throughout our history, the Humane Society has been 100% donor supported. We believe that the problems homeless animals face in our community today can be solved with your help and support. Please consider a tax deductible membership to the Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia, a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity. There are many levels at which to financially contribute to help us meet our goal. Your donation will save lives.
